Plinth area & Carpet Area & numerical

1. Plinth Area- The built up covered area of a building measured at floor level of any storey is called plinth area. It is calculated for the roofed area of a building by taking external dimensions excluding the plinth offsets. The area of the courtyard, open area, balconies, and cantilever projections etc, should not be included. 
















Carpet Area- The liveable area of a building at any floor level is called carpet area. It is the total floor area and minus the un usable area such as of bathrooms, water closet, air conditioning room etc. It should also exclude the kitchen, panty, stores and similar other rooms which are not used for living purpose in residential buildings or it shall be calculated deducting the areas of-

(a) walls from the plinth area, with door and other openings in the wall. Internal pillars or other supports irrespective of their locations. 
(b) verandah, corridors and passage. 
(c) Entrance hall and porch
(d) Staircases 
(e) Rooms for lift
(f) Kitchen, pantry and bathroom 
(g) Store, garage and basement 




Question-1. Prepare a preliminary estimate of a multistoried office building having a carpet area of 2200 Sq. m. 35% of the built up area will be taken up by corridors, verandahs, lavatories, staircases etc. And 1% of the built area will be occupied by walls.
