Cohesion and adhesion

Cohesion

Adhesion
In other words addition is the force of attraction between molecules of liquid and another body with which it comes in contact.

When a liquid like mercury is spilled on a smooth horizontal surface, it gathers into droplets because of the force of Cohesion is more than the adhesive force. But when water is poured on a horizontal surface it spreads out and with the horizontal surface because adhesive force is greater than the Cohesive force.
