Difference between Cohesion and Adhesion

COHESION

1. Forces between  molecules are cohesive.

2. Cohesion is a property of  liquid with which the molecules of liquid remains attached to each other.

3. Due to this property liquid tends to gather into droplets when poured on smooth horizontal surface.

4. Liquids which has more cohesive force are called wetting liquid.

5. Due to the property of Cohesion a liquid remain as a continuous mass.

                             ADHESION

1. Forces between different molecules are adhesive.

2. Adhesion is a property of liquid which enables liquid molecules to adhere to another body in contact.

3. Due to this property, Liquids do not gather into droplets when poured on a smooth horizontal surface.

4. Liquids which has more adhesive force are called non-wetting liquids.

5. It not applicable in the case of Adhesion.
